Direct message the job poster from Black Rock Innovations LLC We are seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Plastics Design Engineer with a strong background in injection-molded part design, especially for automotive and agricultural equipment . This role is ideal for a proactive individual with expert-level Creo skills—especially in surfacing techniques —and a solid understanding of interior cab component design . You will play a key role in supporting new product launches, from concept through production, while managing design documentation and change processes. This role is located in the Western Suburbs of Chicago, IL, and it is an on-site position. Key Responsibilities: Design & Development: Create and refine complex 3D models and assemblies using Creo , with a focus on surfacing for injection-molded plastic parts . Develop innovative solutions for interior cab components in both automotive and farming equipment applications. Ensure designs meet functional, aesthetic, and manufacturability requirements. Project & Process Management: Issue work orders and manage design change notices (DCNs) to support the timely launch of new programs. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to ensure design feasibility and alignment with project goals. Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate design documentation, BOMs, and engineering change records. Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal design guidelines. Operate as a self-starter , taking initiative with minimal supervision. Identify opportunities for design improvements and cost reductions. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in plastics design, preferably in the automotive or agricultural equipment industries. Expert proficiency in Creo , especially in surfacing and complex geometry modeling . Strong understanding of injection molding processes , material selection, and DFM/DFA principles. Experience with interior cab component design is highly preferred. Familiarity with PLM systems and engineering change management . Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Attributes: Experience working in a fast-paced, cross-functional product development environment.
