Job Title: Recreational Worker

This position is considered an "Essential Position" for the purpose of Emergency Management. Emergency duties will be assigned as needed. This position requires 24 hours a day, 7 days per week availability during City of Port St Lucie emergencies, as determined by City Administrators, Emergency Manager or City Officials.

Entry level recreational work in monitoring and supervising designated recreation program(s) and instructing in a variety of recreational activities. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

Essential Duties

  • Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Accepts payments and processes receipts for programs and facility rentals. Utilizes RecTrac software and maintains monthly reports regarding memberships and class/program attendance.
  • Accepts registrations for programs and provides customer service. Sells program tickets, memberships to facility, and enters registration for recreation/fitness programs.
  • Monitors, oversees, maintains, and sets up equipment throughout the Recreation/Fitness division, Event Center, Community Center fitness area, and assigned recreational programs such as special events, athletic leagues, center activities and programs, dances, and game room, pickleball, youth and adult athletic leagues, etc.
  • Maintains equipment and facilities by performing manual labor, painting, and semi-skilled work.
  • Maintains facility, inside and outside; performs litter control functions; general janitorial and housekeeping functions; and other manual labor tasks.
  • Sets up chairs and tables for meetings/events/programs and clears area after meetings/events/programs.
  • Disseminates information to public via email, telephone, or in-person.
  • May instruct assigned recreational/ special events, athletic leagues and activities, center programs, dances, hayrides, etc.
  • Assists in front desk/floor coverage to the fitness center and/or recreation desk of the Port St. Lucie Event Center or the Community Center.
  • Assist in fitness and/or recreation division when hosting special events at the Port St. Lucie Event Center, Community Center (and other locations).
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Some recreation experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS CPR/AED training is required to be obtained within 270 days from date of hire. Possession of valid driver's license and maintenance of clean driving record required with the ability to obtain a valid Florida driver's license within 30 days from date of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, including but not limited to Excel spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word processing software. Knowledge of desktop publishing and recreational registration programs is preferred. Knowledge of various recreational activities and programs. Skills in organizing activities and promoting a safe environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public. Ability to plan, organize and carry out daily and special programs. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to focus on the positive in every situation. Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization. Ability to stay centered when challenged. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to follow through with assigned tasks.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Steel-toe or composite shoes are mandatory.
