The White House Communications Agency (WHCA) is a one-of-a-kind joint service organization dedicated to providing premier information services and communications support to the president. The Technical Writer will coordinate, review, and provide feedback on all curriculum development material in support of the Training Academy.
- Edits technical documents including plans, slides, job aids, scripts, procedural documents, and training materials to ensure consistency across training artifacts.
- Determines the type of publication (article, job aid, video, etc.) that will best serve the project requirements.
- Interviews instructors, curriculum developers, and gov’t customers to learn about specific products or processes, and documents information.
- Participates in meetings and documents meeting minutes.
- Assesses the audience needs for whom the technical and procedural documentation is intended; adjusts tone and technical terms used to meet those needs and to ensure understanding.
- Plans writing processes and sets timelines and deadlines.
- Creates diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to assist readers in understanding a tool or process.
- Publishes completed documentation on knowledge management site and tracks/maintains version control.
- Gathers feedback from customers, curriculum designers, and instructors to improve technical documents.
- Assists with administering the PearsonVue test center. Coordinates test dates, registers students, and proctors’ exams.
- Efficiently works in fast-paced, dynamic environment balancing priorities
- Effectively works with a cross-functional team (subject matter experts and management)
- Produces professional deliverables using Microsoft Office suite
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- BS/BA with 2 years of experience; MS/MA and 1 experience; and High School Diploma and 6 years of related experience in lieu of degree requirement.
- Strong interpersonal and professional skills
- Able to study and pass PearsonVue Test Administer exam
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent writing and grammatical skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to present complex data in clear, organized, concise text.
- Ability to meet deadlines and to work independently.
- Ability to edit and proofread work of colleagues.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Must have Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI suitability for a Presidential Support Duty (PSD) clearance
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with educational/training content and delivery solutions
- Familiarity with Confluence collaboration tool
- Knowledge of Learning Management Tools such as Blackboard
- Knowledge of Assessment Tools such as Questionmark
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Technical Writing or Technical field such as Information Technology or higher
