Job Summary

The ideal candidate will provide expert consultation in mechanical design, development, and implementation of electric motor products and systems. They are recognized as technical leaders and resources. They recommend alterations and enhancements to improve the quality of products and/or procedures. The ideal candidate demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures and relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Candidates may provide consultation on complex projects with a wide degree of creativity and latitude expected.

Job Description

High technical competence in developing NEMA and large horizontal and vertical motors for the industrial market. A strong background in mechanical design and rotating equipment. Activities include leading development programs, component and assembly design, technical review and approval of designs, independent motor design analysis, computer analysis tool utilization, technical specification preparation, and troubleshooting motor application issues. The position will also need to support marketing, engineering, manufacturing, and service functions on new and existing designs, manage other engineers' work, and have strong communication skills with manufacturing, suppliers, and customer personnel.

  • BSME or MS with 8+ years experience in rotating machinery with solid skills in designing, manufacturing, and testing random & form wound electric motors. Candidate should be well versed in electrical motor design, manufacturing, and testing requirements. Skill sets should include casting, rotor, and stator assembly design, bearing systems, vibration analysis, and troubleshooting for manufacturing and customers. In addition, the candidate should have a solid background in vibration analysis and bearing system design.
  • Familiarity with NEMA, UL, and CSA standards applicable to electrical motors. Ability to understand customer specifications and application requirements
  • Capability to provide a leadership role on large complex projects. Ability to interact across all functional areas with limited supervision.
  • Experience with 3D CAD and Finite Element Analysis. Experience in Creo & Ansys is highly desired
  • Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Good communication, technical writing, presentation and project management skills. The incumbent will be expected to provide regular project updates and participate in strategic planning sessions.
  • Computer skills (MS Project, MS Office, Windows).

  • Bachelors degree in engineering
  • More than 8 years professional experience preferably in large electric motor manufacturing or repair.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree and/or PE certification
