Role Summary Rivian is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Infrastructure Engineer to join our dynamic technology team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, management, and maintenance of our On-Prem & Cloud virtualized and physical infrastructure. You will play a crucial part in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our critical systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in virtualization technologies, storage solutions, operating systems, and virtual desktop environments, coupled with a passion for automation and continuous improvement. You will also have the practical skills to work within a datacenter environment and the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. This position will be located in Palo Alto, CA OR Plymouth, MI and report directly to our Sr. Manager, IT Infrastructure. Relocation to either Palo Alto, CA or Plymouth, MI would be required for this role. Responsibilities Design, deploy, configure, and maintain virtualized environments utilizing technologies such as VMware vSphere, KVM, and Proxmox VE, Nutanix. Manage and optimize storage solutions, ensuring data integrity, availability, and performance. Implement and manage data protection strategies, including backup and recovery solutions. Administer and troubleshoot both Linux and Windows server operating systems. Good understanding of building and Managing Infrastructure in Cloud specially in AWS Deploy, manage, and maintain virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions, preferably using VMware Horizon or Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. Perform physical infrastructure tasks within datacenters, including server racking, cabling, and basic hardware troubleshooting. Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python and PowerShell to streamline operational tasks and improve efficiency. Utilize infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools like Terraform and configuration management tools like Ansible to automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration. Monitor system performance, identify potential bottlenecks, and implement proactive solutions. Participate in on-call rotation to provide support for critical infrastructure issues. Document all implemented solutions, configurations, and procedures. Collaborate effectively with other IT teams, including networking, security, and application development. Continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and industry best practices. Contribute to the development and implementation of infrastructure standards and policies. Qualifications Minimum of 7 years of experience in managing and supporting virtualized and physical infrastructure environments. Proven experience with VMware vSphere. Any other Hypervisor like KVM, Proxmox VE is good to have Solid understanding of storage concepts (SAN, NAS, DAS) and data protection methodologies. Strong working knowledge of Linux (e.g., CentOS, Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux) and Windows Server operating systems, including command-line proficiency. Experience with virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions, preferably VMware Horizon or Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. Hands-on experience working in datacenter environments, including server hardware installation, racking, and cabling. Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python or PowerShell) for automation. Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible. 5 + years of experience working on Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and effectively. Self-motivated and proactive with a strong sense of ownership. Knowledge of network fundamentals. Experience with security best practices in infrastructure management.
