Overview Senior Packaging Engineer role at WestRock Company, located in Boston, MA. Full-time position. The Opportunity The Packaging Engineer IV is directly responsible for the creative design, development and cost analysis of innovative protective packaging products to meet customers’ needs. The Engineer works closely with customers’ engineering and purchasing departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging, with a particular emphasis on cost reduction. The Engineer is responsible for leading and being an active change agent. How You Will Impact WestRock Develops or directs development of sketches, specifications, samples and written analyses of proposed packaging to present design for approval to customer and management, including Total Cost Analysis. Coordinates package testing and validation. Interprets results and uses data to inform packaging solutions. Delivers exceptional quality customer service. Designs structures, products, components or assemblies using complex engineering principles. Leads stylistic direction of projects. Identifies redesign opportunities that may improve manufacturing/sourcing efficiencies and drives toward implementation. Defines project goals with the team and steers projects to meet objectives. Articulates and communicates design intent and style effectively. Complies with all company policies and safety procedures. Utilizes advanced test methods to validate designs. Assists with mentoring of subordinates. Contributes to local branch and/or National Accounts through innovation. Collaborates with Sales to achieve wins for the branches. Addresses difficult customer challenges (quality issues/failures) with savvy. Effectively presents to customers/prospects as an extension of the sales force. Utilizes advanced CAD features (3D, parametric). Understands advanced compression strength concepts and formulas. Leads and drives cost reduction audits, especially for high-profile customers. Ability to travel up to 50% of the time. Provides reports as scheduled or requested. Other duties as assigned. What You Need To Succeed Bachelor’s degree in industrial packaging engineering or related work experience. 7+ years related corrugated (or other relevant) packaging experience. Experience across packaging materials (corrugated, folding carton, foam, flexible packaging, etc.) and familiarity with packaging equipment. Expertise with Artios CAD or similar design programs; SolidWorks is beneficial. Above-average proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to identify issues and communicate with team or management and drive resolution. Proven experience creating and delivering presentations to customers and senior leaders.
