Job Description

The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) delivers compassionate, trauma-informed care to victims and perpetrators of violence, both intentional and unintentional, in a timely and non-judgmental manner.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Perform nursing acts within the scope defined by the licensing board.
• Demonstrate skills and knowledge to provide patient care according to unit competencies, policies, and procedures.
• Assess patient needs accurately and develop, implement, review, and maintain comprehensive care plans.
• Provide care to patients ranging from newborns to geriatrics to achieve desired outcomes.
• Conduct quality assurance including maintaining chain of evidence, proper documentation, referrals, report preparation and interpretation, and compliance with mandatory reporting.
• Educate patients and families on physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of examination, treatment, and care.
• Coordinate preparation of documents, testimony, and case facts as needed.
• Complete timely and accurate documentation following organizational policies.
• Meet scheduling requirements including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.
• Adhere to privacy and security regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Maintain effective communication and professional relationships with patients, families, team members, physicians, outside agencies, and the public.

General Responsibilities:

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• Graduate of an accredited RN program.
• Completion of a 64-hour course or two 40-hour IAFN SANE training courses within six months of hire.
• Minimum of one year acute care experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Current BLS/CPR certification from an approved provider within 30 days of hire or by end of orientation.
• Current ACLS and PALS certifications within six months of hire.
• Registered Nurse credential from a compact state or relevant board.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• SANE-A and SANE-P certifications.

Skills and Abilities:

• Basic computer proficiency.
• Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
• Effective communication with sensitivity to cultural, educational, and age diversity.
• Ability to remain calm under stress.
• Compassionate and empathetic patient care approach.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work involving occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and frequent lifting up to 10 lbs. Standing or walking 26-50% of the day, with or without accommodation.
