Overview
Field Representatives, with minimal direction or supervision, survey and review health care organizations across the United States. They apply sophisticated analysis and inductive reasoning skills to determine an organizations degree of compliance with applicable standards and the functionality of its care delivery systems. Field Representatives use their knowledge to assess risk points and identify opportunities for improving compliance. They maintain professional demeanor and advanced communication skills to engage staff in interactive dialogues on a broad array of health care issues, produce detailed, accurate management reports, and effectively communicate survey results to leadership in a constructive, collegial style. They also possess a sound understanding of High Reliability, Robust Process Improvement, and Culture of Safety, and utilize RPI tools efficiently. Field Representatives collaborate as a team member and participate in other Joint Commission activities as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and synthesize survey/review findings to provide conclusions, recommendations, and educational opportunities.
- Connect principal duties and responsibilities including:
- Learn, understand, retain, explain, and objectively apply Joint Commission standards, continually updating and retraining on state?of?the?art care, processes, and technologies approved by the Joint Commissions Board of Commissioners.
- Maintain current knowledge of, and apply, Joint Commission policies and procedures, applicable regulations, and contemporary professional knowledge.
- Exercise independent judgment to conduct thorough evaluations of assigned services and programs meeting accreditation eligibility criteria, reviewing pre?survey information, identifying diverse patient populations, and analyzing risk to patients, staff, and visits.
- Assess health care organizations operations and standards compliance, interview staff and patients, detect and interpret environmental cues, and place identified risk points on the SAFER matrix.
- Interpret and explain the intent of standards in a detailed, constructive, and audience?centered manner, including negative information communicated constructively.
- Document observations accurately utilizing applicable survey technology and provide rationale for improvement opportunities.
- Provide accompanying education to the organization on potential risks, opportunities for improvement, best practices, and required remedial actions.
- Report survey/review findings promptly, accurately, and understandably.
- Assist the Central Office with standard interpretation questions, performance reviews, evidence of compliance, complaints, and Medicare out?of?compliance reports.
- Collaborate productively with colleagues to achieve the Joint Commission mission, conducting interactive evaluation sessions and relevant consultations.
- Travel extensively, including weekends, by automobile or airplane, in all weather conditions, and maintain safety policies on site.
- Complete all administrative responsibilities including peer evaluations, staff education and development programs, on?site survey preparation, and participation in meetings with the Accreditation Committee.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, such as participating in special projects, developing standards and scoring guidelines, serving on corporate committees, acting as a mentor or preceptor, and leading teams.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Physicians: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
- Nurses: Graduate of an approved nursing school with a masters degree in an appropriate discipline.
- Other practitioners: Advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) in their related field (PA, OT, PT).
- Certification / Licensure:
- Active license, registration, or certification appropriate to the discipline, with no disciplinary action at the time of hire and throughout employment.
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) through National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) by the date of hire or by December 31, 2028.
- Experience:
- Five years of recent experience, including 3?years of direct clinical experience in orthopedics and 2?years of accreditation or certification leadership or senior management experience. Consulting experience with health care organizations is considered.
- Contemporary knowledge of health?care operations, clinical practice, use of performance?improvement methods and current research trends.
- Experience in an accredited health?care organization and in healthcare accreditation surveys preferred.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission standards and at least two Joint Commission surveys, plus familiarity with the Disease?Specific Care Certification programs for Orthopedics.
- Physical Abilities:
- Observe and inspect medical facilities, equipment, and procedures in real time without interruption.
- Stand for long periods, walk long distances, lift, climb, stoop, pull, and push to inspect all aspects of health?care facilities.
- Travel extensively, including driving to remote locations, flying small aircraft, and operating in all weather conditions.
- Work in settings with dust, allergens, and infectious diseases.
- Availability:
- Participate in all onboarding and training requirements.
- Complete up to six surveys with a preceptor during orientation.
- Engage in continuing education activities sponsored by the Joint Commission.
- Work full?time; weekend travel as required.
- Intermittent assignments and part?time availability considered as outlined in the position posting.
- Salary: USD $112,000.00 per year.
