JOB SUMMARY
Works under general direction to perform professional level medical or scientific research assignments related to particular or specialized field of endeavor.

The Achilefu Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a motivated Research Associate to join our dynamic research team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge biological studies in a collaborative, innovative, and multidisciplinary research environment that includes engineers, physicists, chemists, biologists, and clinicians.

Preferred experience and education: 


  • Master’s degree with major coursework in cell biology, preferably cancer biology and three (3) years of laboratory experience including at least two years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent. OR

  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in cell biology, preferably cancer biology and four (4) years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent. ·

  • Demonstrated experience in cell culture techniques, including human and mammalian cancer and primary tissue cultures.

  • Proficiency in confocal fluorescence microscopy and standard biological assays

  • The ideal candidate will possess experience in one or more of the following areas: 

  • In vitro assays and experimental design

  • Immunohistochemistry techniques

  • Flow cytometry analysis

  • Western blot assays and protein analysis

Job Duties


  • Conduct biological studies and experiments with minimal supervision

  • Maintain cell cultures and ensure proper laboratory protocols

  • Perform fluorescence microscopy imaging and analysis

  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and documentation

  • Collaborate with research team members on ongoing projects

  • Maintain detailed laboratory records and experimental logs

  • Recommends and/or initiates new or modified procedures and techniques based upon latest developments in assigned field or analysis of research data.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required

  • Education

  • Experience

JOB DUTIES


  • Recommends and/or initiates new or modified procedures and techniques based upon latest developments in assigned field or analysis of research data.

  • Performs computer programming for accumulation and analysis of research data.

  • Designs, constructs, repairs, or modifies electronic and/or mechanical equipment or apparatus used in experiments and research projects.

  • Instructs medical students, graduate students, residents, or other laboratory personnel of lower grade with respect to techniques, procedures, and equipment utilized in research or experiments.

  • Assists principal investigator and other professional personnel in writing of reports and papers for publication.

  • May provide working supervision to employees of lower grade engaged in performance of variety of difficult and complex laboratory work tasks.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
