Position Summary

The position of Project Maintenance Technician is a hands-on position, that provides technical expertise andoversees and participates in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of facility equipment to reduce downtimewhile increasing operational efficiency in a validated cGMP environment. This equipment includes machinery,buildings, computer systems, control systems, safety, and security systems. Additionally, this position includesresponsibility for maintaining shop tools, inventory, and keeping the department's CMMS (computerized maintenancemanagement system) updated all while adhering to Lean and 5S principles. The position must be proficient in therequirements of the Technician Maintenance and Project Technician positions and may be required to provide trainingto the technicians in these roles. This position will also be required to support after hours emergency responseactivities on an as needed basis. You will use your skill set to successfully complete projects that includetroubleshooting and resolving technical issues and developing new solutions that improve performance andfunctionality.

This role requires onsite work at our Spartanburg, SC facility. Working Hours for this nightshift role are: 6:45pm - 6:45am on a 2-2-3 rotating schedule. The training/onboarding schedule will be M-F dayshift.

What You'll do as a Project Maintenance Technician

  • Performs technical troubleshooting on a variety of modalities, technologies, and locations. Performs regularlyscheduled preventative maintenance on high volume, validated processing equipment. Reviews preventativemaintenance tasks for effectiveness and frequency and recommends any continuous improvement changes orLean practices for implementation to management.Diagnoses potential or actual equipment issues through observation, problem identification, and analysis, utilizingavailable information (e.g., cycle printouts, blueprints, schematics); after-which ensuring appropriate and efficientcorrective action.
  • Completes operations and project work through construction and/or installation of systems including electrical,mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems while complying with all federal and state safety regulationsand local safety policies and procedures, including ensuring employee safety by adhering to all Lock Out/TagOut procedures, and following SDS safety procedures when using chemicals.
  • Ensures appropriate work instructions are developed and implemented. This will ensure less experiencedtechnicians can perform tasks as they become routine in nature. Contributes to operational efficiency byresponding in person or by phone support to emergency maintenance calls on a 24/7 basis as assigned.
  • Assists in the creation and maintaining of a spare parts program.
  • Strives for continuous improvement by analyzing new or alternative ways to improve operations; incorporatesstaff recommendations into analysis; responds to audit activities in a constructive manner, and uses findings to improve operations where possible.
  • Maintains mechanical and technical skills, knowledge, and abilities by attending workshops, reviewing trade publications, and participating in training operations personnel to conduct minor, basic repairs to equipment, machinery, etc.
  • Contributes in a team effort by performing in accordance to all STERIS policies, cGMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher level management and performs other duties as assigned.


The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Required

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
  • Requires ability to read, interpret, and practically apply electrical ladder diagrams and mechanical blueprints.
  • Requires working knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) or other types of process
    control equipment.
  • Requires ability to effectively read, write and verbally communicate in English.
  • Requires ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision.
  • Requires computer skills and word processing, spreadsheet and software capabilities re: maintenance
    work order, inventory and downtime software.
  • Requires effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior experience.
  • Above average organizing, analyzing and a minimum of Level 3 math skills (ratios, proportions, basic
    algebra) to determine organizational Customer and regulatory problems to formulate corrective action plans.
  • Able to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
  • Requires normal hearing range sufficient to hear alarms, bells, horns, etc.

  • Support Lean practices and principles.

  • Ability to meet physical requirements of position, including physical capacity evaluation testing andannual physical, as appropriate.

Pay range for this opportunity is $30hr - $37hr. There is also a shift differential added. This position is eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
