Job Title: Project Exploration Geologist
Reports To: Exploration Manager
Location: Coeur d'Alene based with extensive site presence in Mullan and Kellogg, ID.
Position Summary Hecla's NW U.S. Exploration team is looking for a Exploration Project Geologist to provide hands-on, project specific focus towards technical and tactical contributions for near-mine and district exploration programs focused on the Silver Valley of North Idaho. This position is primarily focused on the collection and interpretation of geologic information for exploration target evaluation. It involves detail-oriented surface and underground field work, core logging, technical analysis, and program execution to support results driven geologic and business decisions. This is an excellent opportunity for an early- to mid-career geologist with a passion for exploration to contribute to meaningful discovery and resource development in the Silver Valley.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Promote and maintain practices that are consistent with Hecla's Health, Safety and Environmental standards across all exploration activities.
- Develop and communicate detailed geological observations and interpretations relevant to exploration activities, results, and target evaluation.
- Support the exploration team in field activities and drill program logistics and management.
- Manage core shed logistics such as drill core storage, sample shipments, and directing staff personnel as needed.
- Transportation of drill core from project sites, including driving and towing as needed.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, environmental, and corporate teams as needed.
- Ensure alignment of exploration goals with Hecla's overall business objectives.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to following all applicable company, state, and federal safety guidelines.
- Conduct detailed geologic mapping (surface and underground) and drill core and chip logging.
- Generate and maintain detailed cross-sections that support well-informed geologic interpretation and 3D model development.
- Other duties as assigned.
Technical Skills and Abilities - Strong understanding of precious and base metal vein deposits and related mineral system processes.
- Ability to identify and apply key geologic criteria related to lithology, alteration, structure and mineralization to exploration target opportunity and results.
- Ensure adherence to sampling, analytical, and QAQC protocols across exploration activities.
- Ability to manage field programs and drilling programs; represent Company to team personnel and contractors; review and advise work from others (as needed).
- Basic competency using Leapfrog Geo, ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ioGAS, with functional understanding of data management concepts
- Capable of advanced data analysis to investigate geologic, geochemical, and geophysical relationships that support exploration models and targets.
- Experience with field equipment such as portable XRF and light spectroscopy instruments considered valuable
- Ability to synthesis and integrate historical information, reports, and data into current exploration efforts.
- Ability to communicate effectively to variety of audiences (verbal and written).
- Work efficiently and manage schedules and deadlines
Qualifications and Experience - Bachelor's degree in Geology required; master's degree preferred (structural geology focused experience considered valuable).
- 4+ years of applicable experience weighted toward exploration; work in orogenic vein systems and metamorphic terrain preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Basic competency in Leapfrog Geo, ArcGIS Pro, and ioGAS software's preferred.
- Functional understanding geologic and analytical data management.
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work in field (surface) and underground environments.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements - Work is performed in office, warehouse, and field (surface and underground) settings.
- Work may involve walking on uneven terrain, standing for long periods, exposure to weather, and lifting to 50 pounds over extended periods.
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in all active exploration and mining areas.
- Noise levels are generally quiet in the office; in the field and warehouse, appropriate hearing protection may be required.
- Work environments may involve exposure to dust, and use of a respirator may be required.
