SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Teacher, a Multilingual Learner, supports the academic and language development of students acquiring English by providing targeted instruction, fostering cultural inclusivity, and collaborating with staff to ensure equitable access to learning. This role designs and delivers differentiated lessons, assesses language proficiency, and implements research-based strategies to support multilingual learners. Additionally, the teacher partners with families, promotes cross-cultural understanding, and advocates for students to thrive academically and socially in a diverse school environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Language Instruction: Provide direct instruction in English language development (ELD) to multilingual learners, using strategies that promote language acquisition across reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  • Differentiated Learning: Design and implement lessons that meet the varied language proficiency levels and academic needs of multilingual learners.
  • Assessment & Progress Monitoring: Assess language proficiency, track student progress, and adjust instruction accordingly to support individual learning goals.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with general education teachers, specialists, and administrators to ensure that multilingual learners receive appropriate support within the classroom.
  • Cultural Responsiveness: Create a culturally inclusive classroom environment that recognizes and celebrates diversity while supporting students' linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Parent & Community Engagement: Communicate regularly with families of multilingual learners, providing updates on academic progress, language development, and school involvement opportunities.
  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in language acquisition and multilingual learner education.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for multilingual learners to ensure equitable access to resources, services, and extracurricular opportunities.
  • Behavior Management: Implement positive behavior management strategies that support the social and emotional development of multilingual learners.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Standing & Moving: Frequent standing and moving around the classroom to engage with students, provide individual support, and monitor learning activities.

  • Reaching & Bending: Regular reaching, bending, and kneeling to assist students, organize materials, and access learning resources.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Bilingual Education, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Experience working with multilingual learners in a K-12 educational setting.
  • Familiarity with language assessment tools and differentiated instructional strategies for diverse learners.
  • Experience in culturally responsive teaching and supporting the academic and social-emotional needs of multilingual students.
  • Background in collaborating with other educators to support language development and inclusion.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid teaching license or certification in ESL (English as a Second Language), or bilingual education, as required by state regulations.
