Job Summary:

The General Laborer is responsible for assisting all areas of the plant. Will fill in when shorthanded, cleanup projects, be responsible for the picking up of corn piles, and work alongside all department to assist with other miscellaneous jobs as assigned.

Shift Schedule:

Must fill in for any shift when coverage is needed or directed by the supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform Operator duties during times of absence of an operator, or any other times as directed.
  • Perform Material Handler duties during times of absence of a Material Handler, or any other times as directed.
  • Will be assigned the management of corn piles throughout the year.
  • Assist the maintenance technicians with special projects.
  • Oversee and ensure a clean and safe working environment throughout the facility. Perform small general duties and participate in projects throughout the facility as directed.
  • Communicates regularly with all necessary personnel to ensure efficient plan operation.
  • Assist all other employees and departments as required for efficient plant operation.
  • Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
  • Abides by all safety, health, environmental and food/feed safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience:

  • Education: High School or Equivalent
  • A Post Secondary education and or technical trade certificate is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of the ethanol production process and technology is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of plant equipment and safety procedures.
  • Possess competent knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment used in the facility, to maintain rotating and stationary machinery and equipment: industrial size equipment such as lifts and skid steers; variety of hand tools, power tools, testing instruments (laser alignment), welders (acetylene and electric), drills, pipe threaders; limited amount of light electrical work.
  • Adapts to changes in the work environment; manages competing demands; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with other departments, working to maintain constructive working relationships under all circumstances.
  • Reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and management.
  • Proficiency in working with various software programs.
  • Maintains good attendance habits.
  • Proficient in mathematics.
  • Abide by all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description.
  • Abide by company’s safety, quality, environmental and HR policies at all times.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Frequently required to walk, stand, sit.
  • Frequently required to climb to levels of 125 feet or more, confined and harnessed. Use of stairs and ladders are required.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more.
  • Operate in an office and production environment. Production environment could include frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme heat or cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the production environment is usually very loud.
  • This position requires the use of a respirator.
