The Academy's first school opened in Delano in 2009, serving students from across the Central Valley in grades 6-12. In 2016, we moved to our new, state-of-the-art college prep campus in Delano, and in the Fall of 2017, added an elementary school in Delano and opened a second charter school in Lost Hills. In Delano, we serve over 1,800 students in grades TK-12, while in Lost Hills, we serve over 400 students in grades TK-12.

Job Description

Wonderful College Prep Academy is accepting applications for a Part-time tutor position with the GEAR UP program at WCPA Lost Hills. Assignments will be approximately 28 hours per week during class times, lunch, and afterschool. Workdays will align with the Wonderful College Prep Academy calendar.

The GEAR UP Tutor’s responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Provide tutoring services to students 1:1 or in small groups in classrooms.
• Collaborate with and provide support for GEAR UP staff.
• Work directly with students to provide various academic support services (i.e., tutoring, assisting with completing forms, assisting with workshops, etc.).
• Assist in the planning, organizing, and implementing GEAR UP grant activities.
• Follow school and GEAR UP protocols and procedures.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Tutor Hours: Monday - Thursday, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM (28 hours per week)

ABOUT THE GEAR UP GRANT: GEAR UP is a federally funded Title III Grant. Wonderful College Prep Academy, in partnership with Avenal and Sanger Unified School Districts, will work with 6th and 7th-grade students from four middle schools to prepare them for college. This discretionary grant program is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. GEAR UP provides seven-year grants to states and partnerships to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high school and their first year of college.

Qualifications

• College graduate or be enrolled in college and have completed freshman English and college math (Algebra II) (preferred)
• At least one year of tutoring experience (preferred)
• An eager, flexible learner and problem solver who feels comfortable taking initiative
• A self-starter with exceptional work ethic and the ability to work well away from colleagues and management
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• An ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with scholars
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus

Pay: $18.00/hour.
