THE GLOBAL FOOD INSTITUTE AT GW
Founded by The George Washington University (GW) and renowned chef, humanitarian and long time GW instructor José Andrés, the Global Food Institute at GW (GFI) seeks to advance global food policy and address the world’s most urgent problems by leveraging the power of food. The GFI works across three main pillars: Policy, Innovation and Humanity. The GFI is positioned to produce cutting-edge research to create and improve domestic and global food policies, incubate and engineer innovative new technologies with an entrepreneurial spirit, and lead critical conversations about the impact of food on humans and our planet.
The GFI enables GW faculty and students from each of its 10 schools and colleges, as well as food industry leaders, policymakers and renowned experts to work and teach across its three pillars by:
 The GFI will convert actionable research and discoveries into real-world impact through cross disciplinary research and teaching. GW’s unique location and strengths at the intersection of education, business, technology, healthcare, and international affairs create the ideal environment for private- and public-sector global leaders to develop innovative solutions to our most pressing challenges. 
The Institute is made possible by a founding gift from José Andrés, as well as through the support of other key funders. The Executive Directorship is endowed by the Nelson A. and Michele M. Carbonell Family Foundation. The Institute’s work is powered by philanthropy and supported by partnerships with organizations, companies, foundations, and individual donors.
 THE OPPORTUNITY 
The core belief of the GFI is that we can change the world through the power of food . The inaugural Executive Director, Global Food Institute will develop and bring this strategic vision to life, bring a strong sense of existing food systems, a demonstrated ability to think boldly and catalyze high-profile partnerships across the public and private sectors on a bipartisan basis, and the ability to act as an ambassador for the Institute with key, and often high-profile, stakeholders as it transitions from launch to execution. As the face and voice of the Institute, the Executive Director will leverage their public profile to develop and solidify the Institute’s reputation, strategically bring the novel approaches developed by the Institute and its partners to the forefront of the food conversation, develop consensus among food system leaders, and build the formal and informal coalitions of support required to transition ideas into action.
In collaboration with Founder José Andrés and Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Christopher Bracey, the GFI’s inaugural Executive Director will develop and implement a strategy that successfully transitions the Institute from its initial launch phase and accelerates the Institute’s progress, including translating its broader conceptual goals and three main pillars into the prioritization and execution of specific projects and partnerships.
The Executive Director will have the discretion to build a team to support the Global Food Institute as its needs evolve over time, including drawing from GW staff and resources and additional support as required. The Institute’s team currently includes a Director of Research and Policy and a Director of Curriculum Development. The Executive Director will report directly to the Provost and work in close consultation with the Institute’s Strategic Advisory Committee and its Leadership Council. The Strategic Advisory Committee will be led by the Executive Director in partnership with Founder José Andrés, and will support the Institute through philanthropy, expertise, passion, and connections.
 ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 LOCATION 
As leader of the Global Food Institute, the role of Executive Director requires an on-campus presence. This is a full-time, in-person position, with flexibility and remote-work opportunities provided to accommodate expected travel. It is anticipated that approximately 25 percent of the Executive Director’s work will occur outside of GW’s campus.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline plus 10 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
