This role is ideal for a purpose-driven, relationship-oriented, and detail-focused professional who thrives at the intersection of community-building, storytelling, and fundraising.
The Events Manager oversees a diverse portfolio of events – community celebrations, intimate donor gatherings (“house parties”), on-the-mountain experiences, and donor appreciation events – showcasing our impact, deepening engagement, and advancing fundraising.
This role owns the full event lifecycle—from vision-setting and fundraising goals through execution and follow-up—ensuring each event delivers strong return on investment, strengthens relationships, and reflects the SOS brand and values.
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Events Manager is a key member of the Development team and collaborates closely with leadership, marketing, and program staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesEvents Strategy, Planning & Execution (≈50%)
Partner with the Director of Development to design and deliver the annual events portfolio—including community celebrations, intimate donor gatherings (“house parties”), on-the-mountain experiences, and donor appreciation events —aligned with SOS development goals and organizational strategy.
Set event vision, target audience, objectives, and success metrics (fundraising, stewardship, community-building, and brand awareness).
Own end-to-end event strategy, planning, production, and on-site execution—including invitations and communications; guest lists and targeted outreach; venue and vendor management; speaker programming and run of show; volunteer and on-site staffing; fundraising assets and donation systems; branded materials and raffle procurement; and on-site management from setup through teardown.
Manage post-event communications and follow-up, including thank-you emails and targeted donor follow up, in partnership with Marketing.
Own guest strategy end-to-end to ensure strong attendance and the right mix of attendees, partnering with hosts, senior leadership, and board for targeted outreach and disciplined follow-up.
Serve as the primary point of contact for events, leading internal and external communication and delivering clear, timely updates to teams, hosts, and partners to maintain alignment and momentum throughout planning.
Oversee grassroots and partner-led events strategy by developing streamlined standard operating procedures and toolkits that enable partners and volunteers to plan and execute events independently.
Own event-based sponsorship revenue and partnership fulfillment within the development budget.
Design and package sponsorship opportunities tied to SOS events, including tiered sponsorships and in-kind or experiential partnerships (e.g., food & beverage, entertainment, venues).
Partner with Marketing to develop compelling sponsorship decks and pitch materials.
Research, identify, and cultivate prospective corporate and community partners aligned with SOS values.
Collaborate with the Director of Development and CEO on sponsorship solicitation, strategy, and follow-up.
Ensure flawless execution of all sponsorship deliverables, including signage, logo placement, program recognition, verbal acknowledgments, and email visibility.
Lead sponsor stewardship by providing timely post-event impact updates, acknowledgments, and reporting to reinforce value and drive renewal.
Update partner and sponsor data in the CRM to ensure accurate records, track gift pledges, support gift processing, and monitor financial pacing and forecasts, providing timely reporting to guide development strategy.
Build and nurture strong, year-round relationships with event partners and sponsors to drive engagement, support, and partnership growth.
Ensure partners are engaged through event invitations, meaningful impact updates, and recognition as valued members of the SOS community.
Serve as a visible ambassador for SOS Outreach at community, fundraising, and partner events, proactively cultivating relationships to expand the partnership pipeline and deepen long-term support.
Serve as a core member of the Development Team, contributing to broader fundraising initiatives, campaigns, and organizational growth.
Provide support across peak fundraising periods, ensuring the team achieves goals efficiently and effectively.
Collaborate closely with Programs, Marketing, Leadership, and the Board of Directors.
Champion a collaborative, mission-aligned team culture that fosters engagement, innovation, and accountability.
Stay informed on best practices in event-based fundraising, sponsorship activation, and donor experience.
Contribute ideas for innovation and continuous improvement across events and partnerships.
We know great candidates may not meet every qualification—and we value lived experience, transferable skills, and passion just as much as formal credentials. If you’re excited about creating meaningful events, building community partnerships, and leveraging fundraising to support youth access to the outdoors, we encourage you to apply.
3–5+ years of experience in event management, fundraising, nonprofit development, or partnership management. SOS Outreach program staff with relevant experience may also apply.
Experience managing sponsorships, corporate partnerships, or fundraising events, ideally in youth-development, outdoor-based nonprofits, or the outdoor industry.
Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and relationship management skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and represent SOS as an ambassador.
Comfortable speaking and presenting to groups of varying sizes.
Skilled at working cross-functionally and independently, including in remote or distributed team environments.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple events, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
