Program and Position Summary: The Housing Rights Program works to improve living conditions and empower tenants living in the Mission District and other districts populated by the Latinx community and other marginalized folks in San Francisco. Through a variety of direct services and organizing methods, including but not limited to case management and stabilization, multi-service referrals, leadership and advocacy trainings, and supporting the formation of tenant associations. The Housing Rights Program consists of two main components, the Mission SRO Collaborative (MSROC) and the Tenant Counseling program. MSROC focuses specifically on conditions and advocacy in Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotels in the Mission District of San Francisco. The Collaborative is comprised of Mission Action as the lead agency and fiscal agent, and includes the San Francisco Anti-Displacement Coalition, the Mission Neighborhood Resource Center, and the Women's Community Clinic as partner agencies. MSROC is also part of the SRO Families United Collaborative (SROFU), a citywide collaboration of community-based organizations in Chinatown, South of Market, the Tenderloin, and the Mission that serves families with children who live in hotels. The Tenant Counseling program is a newer arm of Missing Action Housing Rights work that extends services beyond the Mission to reach community members living in other districts such as the Excelsior, where many displaced Latinx and immigrant tenants have settled. The program focuses on providing case management, stabilization, and referral services to tenants in a variety of housing situations in these various districts. The Tenant Education and Leadership Development Organizer is responsible for leading the educational and tenant leadership development aspects of the program, including training development, facilitation, and logistics. The Organizer will also provide supervision to peer outreach participants. Position Responsibilities: Coordinate tenant leadership development programming, trainings, and other related events Serve as the lead trainer for the leadership programs, including the current annually held Promotorxs Leadership Academy (PLA) Lead the recruitment & interviewing process for prospective program participant Serve as lead supervisor for tenant program participants-providing day-to-day supervision and support for participants who are identifying building code violations and supporting tenants in need of housing counseling and social services. Work with tenant leaders to deepen political consciousness and develop tenants' leadership skills Develop systems and documentation for curriculum, revising, updating, and generating curriculum as needed. Actively participate in program assessments, planning and evaluation Participating in bi-weekly meetings with representatives from Collaborative agencies Strengthen and develop advocacy and community organizing skills and participation among Dolores Street Community Services staff and tenants Coordinate with other Housing Rights staff to support SRO tenant participation in community organizing campaigns Coordinate with other Housing Rights staff to develop monthly tenant meetings that identify and prioritize tenant issues Coordinate disaster preparedness and fire prevention workshops in SRO hotels including contacting city agencies and coordinating tenant leaders to staff trainings Facilitate disaster preparedness and fire prevention workshops at tenant meetings and SRO hotels Serve as a resource and referral source for SRO tenants, SRO managers/owners, and other agencies on issues related to accessing services and stabilizing SRO hotels Engage in community organizing efforts affecting SRO residents and homeless communities, including affordable housing, social services, land-use, and community planning issues Maintain familiarity and working relationships with City agencies, community and neighborhood groups, and social service organizations that work with SRO tenants Generate reports, collecting data, and assisting with program administration as needed Other Duties: Attend organizational and departmental meetings, trainings, and activities Maintain professional attitude and work ethic Comply with Mission Action policies and procedures, and laws pertaining to the operation of Mission Action Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications: Two to three years experience in community organizing, tenant rights, affordable housing, supportive housing, and/or homelessness Two years experience facilitating trainings or workshops; experience developing trainings preferred Knowledge of issues facing homeless and low-income families in San Francisco Strong organizational & communication skills Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team Staff supervision experience Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds Willingness to work flexible hours Commitment to social justice issues Bilingual Spanish/English required Mission Action ( ) is an equal-opportunity employer which values lived experience and seeks applicants of the greatest diversity possible.
