Job Description

The Elser Hotel & Residences is a 49-story luxury condominium hotel located in Downtown Miami. The newly completed tower offers 646 fully furnished rooms/residences, over 19,000 square feet of curated amenities, and 5,000 square feet of prime retail space. Named after the iconic Elser Pier, built in the 1900s, it continues the tradition of enjoying the shoreline of Biscayne Bay in downtown Miami.

The Director of Engineering is responsible for all administrative, financial, and operational aspects of the hotel related to engineering. The role ensures the safe and profitable operation of the hotel.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and train all Engineering staff in customer service, empowerment, SOPs, and loss prevention.
• Create, approve, and post staff schedules according to hotel standards.
• Develop and adhere to the annual departmental budget.
• Participate in financial forecasting and monthly profit/loss reviews.
• Maintain property, equipment, grounds, and assets in good repair.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws.
• Implement a preventative maintenance program for all hotel equipment.
• Inspect, test, and certify emergency and life safety systems.
• Promptly handle room maintenance requests.
• Respond immediately to alarms, assess, and report findings, taking action as necessary.
• Support special projects and renovations.
• Participate in energy conservation initiatives.
• Review guest and meeting planner feedback to address issues timely.
• Ensure ADA compliance.
• Manage vendor contracts controlled by engineering.
• Support hotel safety and other programs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of facilities management experience in a hotel or related field, or a 4-year degree with at least 1 year of management experience, or a 2-year degree with 3+ years of experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Stationary Engineer’s license if mandated locally.
• Skills in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance required.
• Ability to work long hours and perform heavy physical tasks.
• Travel may be required.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and handle problems effectively.
• Maintain professional appearance and adhere to hotel standards.
