Hip Hop Caucus is a national, non-profit and non-partisan organization that connects the Hip Hop community to the civic process, builds power and creates positive change. We advocate for democracy and voting rights, climate change, and social and economic justice both in policy and through our grassroots infrastructure. Our grassroots, Leadership Committees set local agendas and shape local strategies to engage people in their cities through culture. 

• We organize 14 – 40 year-olds, who identify with Hip Hop Culture, and share values of justice and equity. We connect the Hip Hop community to the political process to build power and create change.
• We create platforms for cultural and grassroots leaders to use their voices, creative talents, and networks to educate, energize and mobilize people and communities.
• Through partnerships with artists, creatives, celebrities, and media we create content and share it through cultural channels reaching millions of people and inspiring action. It’s not only large audiences that we engage, we are intentional about engaging our communities on the frontlines of injustice. 
• We source solutions for local to global challenges from our communities, and advocate for them to decision-makers and influencers. We partner with a broad range of organizations, and we have a respected presence in the halls of the U.S. Congress, Federal Agencies, State Legislatures, and the United Nations.

Hip Hop Caucus is hiring a  Development Marketing & Communications Specialist  to play a pivotal role at the intersection of donor engagement and impact storytelling. This work will include a combination of internal database support and working with our larger team to share the impact of our work with existing and new donor audiences. The  Development Marketing & Communications Specialist requires a detailed-oriented, efficient and solutions-driven critical thinker. This role reports to the Development Manager, and requires someone who is a motivated self-starter who takes initiative, thinks strategically, and can excel in a dynamic team environment with multiple variable and strict deadlines.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Donor Communications and Marketing – 55%

• Develop and implement marketing strategies and communication plans work closely with cross-functional teams.
• Schedule and produce multi-channel fundraising campaigns including email marketing,
• social media, website updates for special fundraising days, year-end appeals and other

special projects.

• Identify and pursue opportunities to position Hip Hop Caucus as a thought leader at the

intersection of racial, economic, and climate justice, civil and human rights.

• Develop and implement targeting techniques, with an emphasis on increasing giving, for

various donor segments (millennials, planned giving prospects, volunteers, etc.

• Implement and grow the monthly Sustaining Donor program.
• Manage components of workplace and other corporate partner giving programs.
• Coordinate the direct mail solicitation process.

Donor Database & Fundraising Support – 30%

• Support the Development Manager in maintaining donor records and accurate

information regarding all communications with donors.

• Draft a guide for departmental practices and policies relating to donor

communications practices involving the database; provide ongoing updates.

• Work with regional supporters to design and execute donor-led fundraising activities.
• Occasionally support prospect research activities.

Special Event Coordination – 15%

• Work with the Director of Development and others to ensure successful online

and in-person events, assuming major responsibility for event details, logistics,

and “day of” volunteer management.

• Work with Volunteer Coordinator to implement directed communications with

volunteers and donors.

• Assure details regarding event components are documented in donor database.
• Assist with post-event follow up including reporting on revenue, donor engagement,

new donor acquisition; providing support for donor engagement activities, mailings, and

new donor stewardship.

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum two (2) years of demonstrated and progressively responsible professional experience applicable to nonprofit (c3) fundraising or related experience.
• Competency in EveryAction or other complex database systems.
• Competency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive, and social media channels.

• Competency in graphic design (Canva, Adobe, etc.).
• Experience developing strong, respectful relationships with co-workers and supporters.
• Experience communicating with diverse stakeholders in a variety of formats (emails, letters, phone calls, reports, face-to-face meetings, etc).
  

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate must be able to occasionally work extended hours on evenings and/or weekends, and must be able to travel occasionally (approximately 25 overnights per year). Successful reference checks will be required.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a remote position that is based ideally in or near Washington, D.C. or Los Angeles, CA. The salary range for this role is $55,000-60,000 annually based on experience and qualifications.
