Position Summary The Assistant Principal / Athletic Director supports the mission of Woodside Middle School by providing strong instructional leadership, ensuring a safe and positive school culture, and overseeing a comprehensive middle-school athletics program. This role works collaboratively with the principal, staff, coaches, students, families, and community partners to promote high levels of academic achievement, personal growth, and extracurricular engagement.
Key Responsibilities Instructional Leadership - Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating an instructional program aligned with SACS goals, state standards, and student needs.
- Provide coaching, support, and instructional leadership to teachers, emphasizing data-driven decision-making and high-quality teaching practices.
- Coordinate staff development opportunities and contribute to evaluation processes as assigned.
School Climate & Operations - Promote and maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
- Assist with student supervision, discipline, attendance, and other operational responsibilities.
- Collaborate with families and community members to strengthen partnership and engagement.
- Ensure compliance with statutes, regulations, and board policies related to students, staff, and school operations.
Athletic Administration - Oversee all aspects of the Woodside Middle School athletic program, including scheduling, budgeting, staffing, facilities management, and compliance with state and district guidelines.
- Recruit, support, and evaluate coaches to maintain high-quality athletic experiences grounded in sportsmanship, student development, and safety.
- Coordinate athletic communication, transportation, event management, and community relations.
- Promote participation, equity, and alignment between athletics and the school's academic mission.
Qualifications - Valid Indiana Administrative Certification.
- Demonstrated record as a highly effective classroom teacher.
- Experience and knowledge in curriculum, instruction, and staff development.
- Understanding of teaching methodologies and ability to provide instructional support.
- Strong technology skills and ability to assist staff and students in integrating technology effectively.
- Expertise in data analysis to support instructional decision-making and student learning.
- Proven communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to community and parent involvement.
- Commitment to maintaining a positive and safe learning environment.
- Experience in supervising, coordinating, or leading athletic or extracurricular programs.
- Knowledge of athletic program operations, including scheduling, event management, rules compliance, and student eligibility.
- Ability to recruit, support, and evaluate coaches while fostering a culture of sportsmanship, safety, and student development.
- Understanding of middle-school athletic structures, including coordination with feeder programs and alignment with district expectations.
- Ability to manage athletic budgets, facilities, transportation, and equipment in an efficient and equitable manner.
- Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple events, activities, and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support athletic events and school activities.
